Salmans Sentence In Hit-run Case Suspended, Next Hearing July 11
Kamaal Khan, who has not been examined despite being a witness, saves the day for the actor
Early reports trickling in from the Court suggest that Salman Khan’s sentence of a 5-year jail term in the 2002 hit-and-run case has been suspended by the High Court. The actor will have to appear in Court today and file for a fresh bail plea.
The next hearing is slated for july 11.
Salman was represented by lawyer Amit Desai. The defence lawyer argued that Kamaal Khan, who was the fourth person in the car that night, was not examined. The emergence of the Kamaal Khan angle has weakened the prosecution case. They also argued that the key witness, Ravindra Patil, was an unwilling witness.
The prosecution argued that Kamaal was a British National and was not available for investigation.
Hearing both sides of the case, the judge observed that the actor should not be suffering while his appeal is pending.
The actor was not present in the Court today; his sister Alvira and his manager were seen at the venue.
Salman was sentenced to a 5-year jail term and a penalty of Rs. 25,000 by the sessions Court on May 6. He was found guilty on all charges including driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. However, his lawyers moved the High Court and got an interim bail of 48 hours, the same evening.
